ABOUT ANDREW

Andrew Woelflein is an independent scholar, military researcher, author, and public speaker.  He served as a Trustee of the Anne S.K. Brown Military Collection at Brown University, from 1996 - 2024. He was the Presiding Trustee from 2013-2022.

The Anne S.K. Brown Military Collection is the foremost American collection of material devoted to the history and iconography of soldiers and soldiering, and is one of the world’s largest collections devoted to the study of military and naval uniforms. It was formed over a period of forty years by Mrs. Anne S.K. Brown (1906-1985) of Providence and is still growing.

Andrew speaks widely on the Collection and its broad range of soldier-artists to various historical and other groups.  He has sourced art and related material from donors for the Collection. In 2014 and 2017 Woelflein initiated WWI centennial exhibits at the President Woodrow Wilson House in Washington, DC and the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri that used period art from the Collection.

Woelflein’s book, Herbert Knotel’s German Armies in Color was published in 2007 and features Knotel artwork from the ASKB Collection covering 17th to 20th century German Armies.

He is currently working on an action-thriller novel set during the US Civil War.
